June marks the beginning of the hurricane season here in Central Florida, a time when residents turn their attention to radars, the sky and home storm preparations. Register Construction prides itself on being an integral part of the Central Florida community, and for us, that means working to help keep our neighbors safe from these dangerous storms.
As part of that commitment, we’ve been excited to work on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Aircraft Operations Center at Lakeland Linder International Airport. This center is the main base for the organization’s fleet of hurricane-hunting aircraft that provide essential data on atmospheric conditions to help everyone stay ahead of dangerous weather.
Register Construction teamed with The Lunz Group, the City of Lakeland and Lakeland Linder on the original expansion of the facility as a fast-track project that was completed in just over five months. The 58,000-square-foot facility includes 34,000 square feet of dedicated office and laboratory space, with an additional 13,000 square feet reserved specifically for aircraft repairs and storage. This hangar can accommodate all nine AOC aircraft, including the three used by Hurricane Hunters. This phase of the project also included an iconic 255,000-gallon-water tank, dubbed the “Blue Monster.”
Register and the other team members recently completed Phase II of the NOAA Operations Center. This 50,000-plus-square-foot expansion project contains hangar space to accommodate NOAA’s new aircraft. In addition, existing storage space was converted into two-story office space to provide additional workspace for NOAA staff.
From the design stage through pre-construction and all the way to completion, Register Construction made sure that every detail was properly considered to ensure a successful culmination of this highly anticipated structure. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our communities during hurricane season and beyond.
At Register Construction, we pride ourselves on being able to handle a wide range of construction jobs in the commercial and industrial sectors, and our portfolio is a testament to our expertise and accuracy.
