February is recognized as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and at Register Construction, we fully support the efforts being made to promote this important type of education right here in Polk County and elsewhere.

Why CTE Matters

It’s no secret that many trades, including commercial construction, have been struggling in recent years to attract workers. Many companies have been operating short-staffed for quite some time now, and that’s a problem that we at Register Construction believe can be solved.

For decades, teachers and parents have urged young students to begin preparing for college as early as possible, but it’s time to face the fact that not every high school student is bound for college — nor should they be.

Students need to be informed about their options beyond high school graduation, including vocational training. Teachers and administrators can help by partnering with trade schools to create opportunities for students to visit local campuses to see for themselves what it would be like to attend such an institution.

Community leaders and business owners can also get involved by reaching out to the schools and youth organizations in their areas to start building connections with young people to help them see the value of trade careers. It could be helpful to sponsor youth-oriented events and informal introductions to various trades and industries.

Parents can get in on the action, too, by opening a dialogue with their kids about their goals and plans for the future, and helping them to realize that there are real benefits to pursuing vocational careers.

Let’s protect our future by enlightening the next generations about all of their options for continued education and careers. Increase the focus on technical education for the young people in your life today!

Career Choices that Work for Everyone

At Register Construction, we encourage all young people to pursue their personal goals. We want all students to be aware of all the possibilities that lay before them, and that taking courses at a trade school can lead to a rewarding career relatively quickly, followed by a lifetime of opportunities.
