October 17 is a special day at Register Construction, and this year the date is especially noteworthy because it marks 50 years since Buddy Register established our company.
Time to Celebrate
The company began with small projects and prefab metal buildings. By 1974, Register Construction had catapulted to become the largest Gulf States metal building dealer in Florida. The International Paper Building became the largest fabricated by Gulf States at the time.
From the mid-’70s to the early ’80s, there were up to 385 employees on the payroll, with work being done for IMC, WR Grace, USS Agrichem, Mobil, and CF Chemicals. The majority of the work was performed in-house with carpenters, a concrete crew, block masons, a steel erection crew, and a cabinet shop. When Polk County initiated the Building Permit division in the later 1970s, Register was one of the first to team up with local architects in Design/Build.
As the firm’s Design/Build department grew, so did new partnerships. In 1986, Mark Gard joined the company with 10-plus years of knowledge. Fortunate enough to pass 50 years of knowledge along, Gard’s sons — Cole, Clay, and Case — now hold positions of ownership and authority with Register Construction, as do Buddy’s children — Angie and Les. Chief Financial Officer Mike Butler has been with the company since 1981. He is integral to the firm’s longevity and accomplishments and has a position of ownership, as well.
Over the years, Register Construction has completed a wide variety of projects throughout the country, including industrial and manufacturing, office, medical, automotive, retail, cold storage, and special-use facilities. This experience is strengthened by the excellence of our employees, each having a unique skill set and knowledge base in construction, allowing us to offer unique, tailored solutions to each and every client.
As an organization, we value integrity, dependability, quality of work, and continuous learning, providing a level of service that ensures our clients that they can trust us for all of their future construction projects.
We take pride in our professional affiliations and community contributions, and we encourage leadership company-wide. Each and every team member is held to the highest standard of excellence, which is reflected throughout our work, as well as in the relationships we foster.
Thank You for 50 Years of Support
Many things have changed over the years both in the commercial construction industry of Central Florida and in Register Construction as a company. Still, one thing remains — an enduring component of what we do: The standard of excellence that we remain committed to. While the surface appearance has morphed to reflect the times, our foundation of commitment to our clients and dedication to quality has remained steadfast, unaltered through time.
We at Register Construction would like to thank all the owners, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, employees and their families for the success we have achieved through the years.
